US stocks rose for
the fourth day in a row on optimism about the second quarter earnings. The
S&P 500 was about 1 percent below its all-time closing high of 1,669.16 and
the Nasdaq posted its best close since October 2000.
The Dow
Jones industrial average gained 75.65 points to close at 15,300.34. The
Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 11.86 points to 1,652.32, the highest
close since the end of May. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 19.43 points to
end at 3,504.26.
