Todays US Markets Update 5 August 2013

The Dow industrials and S&P 500 ended at record highs for a second day on Friday, posting modest gains despite a mixed employment report that showed hiring slowed in July. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 30.34 points, or 0.19 percent, at 15,658.36, a record close. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up 2.80 points, or 0.16 percent, at 1,709.67, also a record. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 13.84 points, or 0.38 percent, at 3,689.59.

Todays Asian Markets Update 5 August 2013



Asian shares were soft in early trade as the US dollar was on the defensive after data showed US employers slowed their pace of hiring in July, while the NZ dollar dropped after a food-safety scare affected exports of the country’s largest company, reported Reuters. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.22% or 48.93 points at 22,239.90.Japan’s Nikkei shed 1.37% or 98.18 points at 14,267.98.Singapore’s Straits Times was down 0.36% or 11.56 points at 3,242.57.South Korea’s Seoul Composite fell 0.17% or 3.28 points at 1,920.10.Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted was up 0.18% or 14.23 points at 8,114.11.China’s Shanghai Composite was flat at 2,028.75.

Todays US Markets Update 2 August 2013



US, markets closed at record highs propelling the S&P 500 above the 1,700 mark for the first time, as Wall Street cheered a round of upbeat economic data and ahead of the widely-watched government jobs report. So far this year, the Dow and S&P 500 have spiked more than 19 percent, while the Nasdaq has surged an impressive 21 percent. The CBOE volatility index slid below 13.The Dow Jones industrial average was up 128.48 points, or 0.83 percent, at 15,628.02, a record close. It hit a new intraday high of 15,650.69. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up 21.14 points, or 1.25 percent, at 1,706.87, also a record. The benchmark S&P surpassed 1,700 early in the session after failing to break above that level on Wednesday.
